It has been some time since the Sundowners have skied the mountains
around Aspen, Colorado. There is
Ajax, located in the heart of Aspen, and there is the Aspen Skiing Company’s
newly acquired Aspen Highlands - which has been extensively modernized and is
the locals favorite. Great long cruising runs await at Snowmass’ 3,010 acres,
and Buttermilk/Tiehack Mountain is an excellent place for a day of lessons, or
zooming down Racer’s Edge where the town’s downhill is run.
We will be staying in Aspen at the Gant
Condominiums, only four blocks from Ajax. Units will be 2 bedroom/2 bath with 4
persons per unit. The Gant is very much an upscale property, with 2 heated
pools, 2 hot tubs, and a sauna. Each unit has a fully equipped kitchen,
fireplace and balcony.
Our trip leaves at 2:00 pm from O’Hare.
with arrival into the Aspen airport at 6:15 pm. On the last day, we do not
leave Aspen until 6:05 pm, with arrival back at O’Hare at 10:58 pm. This
schedule allows a 5th day of skiing.
Aspen is, by far, one of the best ski
towns. There are superb restaurants and non-stop night life.
